Cass County receives second Transparency Star award

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced Cass County is the latest local government entity to achieve a Transparency Star in recognition of excellence in debt obligations. This marks the second award for financial transparency this year for Cass County. Transparency Stars recognizes local government entities that provide easy online access to important financial data. The Comptroller’s office launched the Transparency Stars program in March 2016 to recognize cities, counties and school districts making important strides toward greater government transparency.

Local government entities can apply for stars in the areas of: Traditional Finances, Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development, Public Pensions, and Debt Obligations, Open Government and Compliance “Cass County has shown a continued commitment to providing taxpayers with a clear and meaningful analysis of its financial data. This effort achieves the goals set by my office’s Transparency Stars program,” Hegar said. “I am pleased to recognize Cass County for going above and beyond in its transparency efforts and being awarded for receiving the Debt Obligations Transparency Star.”

Cass County received its initial star for Traditional Finances earlier this year. After receiving an initial star for Traditional Finances, remaining stars may be awarded in any order. Cass County Connect Cass County newsletter notes that “Cass County strives to be the example rural Texas County for innovation, transparency, and accessibility. This has been a strategic goal achieved through a collaborative effort with all county offices and departments. Cass County Auditor Jim Loomis was especially instrumental in achieving this significant accomplishment for Cass County. Attaining a Transparency Star is a major accomplishment that demonstrates the dedication, determination and drive of county government officials to provide to all residents a clear picture of the operations of their local government officials and how the taxes received are being allocated to serve the citizens of the county.”
