Cass County convicts three in February

According to Courtney Shelton, Cass County Criminal District Attorney, the fifth Judicial District Court released information on two cases for February, in which three were convicted on offenses ranging from burglary to possession of drugs.

Presiding Judge Bill Miller imposed the following sentences: Carrie Michelle Whatley Ramsdell, 36 of Bivins was convicted of burglary of a vehicle and sentenced on February 13, 2023. Ramsdell was given a 270-days in county jail, with community supervision sentences revoked. Ramsdell was remanded to pay $200 in court costs and a $2,000 fine for the burglary offense.

Miller also imposed a sentence of 91 days in county jail on Ramsdell, following her conviction of the offense of possession of marijuana. Again, her community supervision was revoked, and she was ordered to pay a $500 fine.

Ramsdell’s fines total $2,500 for both charges–in addition to her $200 court costs.

Her sentence will run concurrently, according to Shelton.

Bill Darrell Ivory, 56, of Longview was convicted of burglary of a habitation.

Shelton said Ivory was given “10 years Insitutional Division, Texas Department of Criminal Justice suspended, with 10 years community supervision.”

Ivory was ordered to pay $2,000 in fines, $2,800 in restitution, and $445 in court costs.

Ivory was also convicted of theft of property, in which Shelton said he would get “365 days County Jail suspended and 18 months community supervision,” which would run concurrently.

Miller imposed a $500 fine for this offense and $1,698 for restitution.

Shelton said Curtis Ray Moore, III, 39, of Texarkana, Texas was convicted of posession of a controlled substance. Moore was given 10 years of deferred adjudication and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine, 464 court costs, and $180 in restitution.
