Cass County has a rich heritage and a bright future

Several historical organizations are hard at work preserving and promoting our local history. The Linden Heritage Foundation recently acquired the original 1935 Linden Firetruck. This is another piece of their unique heritage that they hope to restore and display for our community. The Linden Heritage Foundation is a nonprofit public charity formed in 2015 to protect and promote cultural resources for the adaptive use of historic sites as economic development tools. The Foundation is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Click on the images below to learn more!

Atlanta Grade School Friends

The mission of Atlanta Grade School Friends is to restore the historic Atlanta-Miller Grade School located on Miller Street in Atlanta, Texas. From 1936 to 1974 the school provided a safe and welcoming environment for Atlanta’s children and their dedicated teachers. In addition to renovation of the building and the continued maintenance thereof, Atlanta Grade School Friends oversees the development and management of educational programs and related activities for all ages that enhance the building’s usefulness. Check out their video below or their website for updates or to make a contribution.

Atlanta Historical Museum

Housed in the historic Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot, the Atlanta Historical Museum showcases our community’s story. Museum exhibits celebrate Atlanta’s town history, highlight the railroad’s local impact, and honor hometown hero Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman to earn a pilot’s license. Entrance is free. Donations are appreciated. The Museum is open Monday Friday, 9:00AM-4:00PM, Closed 12:00-1:00PM for lunch. Please note that the museum is occasionally closed during posted hours. Preserving and Promoting History

Cass County has rich history. We have over 30 Texas Historical Markers which provide a brief overview of the people and places of the past that have shaped our future. Countless volunteer hours are put in each year to help preserve and promote our history. I encourage you to get involved in one of the many great organizations working to improve our community through historical projects. Preservation Texas, Miller Grade School Friends, Linden Heritage Foundation, Music City Texas Theater, Cass County Historic Commission, or the Cass County Genealogy Society are doing great work in our community. If you have an interest in history, there’s a place to plug in and get involved!
