Child Abuse Prevention Month in Cass County The Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center joined members of the community along with Court Appointed Special Advocates, Biker’s Against Child Abuse (BACA), and members of Cass County Law Enforcement Community at the Historic Cass County Courthouse as Judge Travis Ransom read a proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Cass County.
In 2024, the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services confirmed 53,543 victims of child abuse or neglect. Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone in our community.
One of the most powerful symbols of this movement is the pinwheel. Blue pinwheels have been placed on the Cass County Courthouse lawn for the month of April. For over a decade, the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign has been shining a light on the importance of preventing child abuse and building strong, healthy families.
In 2025, this initiative continues to spread awareness, inspire action, and remind us of the collective responsibility we all share in ensuring children grow up in safe, supportive environments.
Court Appointed Special Advocates, known as CASA volunteers, are people just like you who get to know a child in foster care and speak up for their best interest in court. Learn how you can Change a Child’s Story today!
The Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center’s (TCAC) mission is to unite multi-disciplinary team members and community partners to ensure hope, healing, and justice for child abuse victims and their families. The Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center offers a safe place for children who are victims of abuse and their families to receive comprehensive services from dedicated professionals. These professional services are provided by forensic interviewers, therapists and advocates in a child-friendly environment through a coordinated team approach with local law enforcement, District Attorneys, CPS, etc. Go to https://www.texarkanacac.org/ to learn more.

Protecting Children From Abuse
Child abuse is a heartbreaking reality that affects millions of children each year. Yet, with the right tools and strategies, we can prevent it. By focusing on prevention, we can address the root causes of abuse and neglect before they ever begin.
Prevention is not just about protecting children from harm—it’s about creating a society that nurtures them and promotes their well-being from the very beginning. Consider volunteering your time, treasure, and talent by becoming a CASA, support organizations like BACA and the Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center.
If you have the ability, you have the responsibility. If we want a bright future; we must protect the most vulnerable among us who will one day be our future leaders.
