Over the next four years they have over $42 million dollars worth of planned infrastructure improvements scheduled for Cass County. First among them are new safety upgrades scheduled to be installed at 6 intersections in Cass County according to plans awarded in June by the Texas Department of Transportation. The nighttime lighting systems to be installed are safety enhancements that will provide LED lighting to increase visibility and awareness of the intersection. Some locations will also be transitioned from an overhead flashing beacon to flashing stop signs along with additional warning signs. The signage upgrade will also increase driver awareness of the approaching intersection. The work is expected to begin in September and take about 14 months to complete.
Intersections scheduled for improvements include: Cass County: US 59 at FM 2327 Cass County: SH 77 at FM 2791 Cass County: FM 125 at FM 251 Intersections scheduled for safety lighting improvements and overhead flashing beacon removal in Cass County include: Cass County: SH 49 at SH 11 Cass County: SH 155 at SH 49 Cass County: FM 161 at FM 2612 US 59/ I-369 Corridor The US 59/Future I-369 Route Study was conducted in 2018 to determine the recommended route from Texarkana to north of Queen City. The recommendation was to upgrade the existing US 59 corridor instead of utilizing new location alternatives. The project is broken into three sections from SH 151 to FM 2148 is the North Section. The middle Section is from FM 2148 to the Cass County Line. The South Section is from Bowie County Line to FM 2327. This is an 8.4 mile project that would upgrade existing US 59 to meet interstate standards. The estimated project cost today is $214.8M and currently NOT FUNDED. This project is estimated to go out for bids in 2033.
