Cass County Connect
Cass County Vision
Two years ago we established a clear vision for Cass County; “to be the example rural Texas County for innovation, transparency, and accessibility.” Everything we do is nested into those three things. We must be innovative because we will always have needs that outpace our resources. We simply don’t have the tax base to underwrite bad decisions and must always keep looking for better, more efficient ways to do business. Our County must be transparent with everything we do. Our business is the business of the people and an educated and informed public is critical to a well functioning democracy. Accessibility means embracing a customer service mindset and being present and responsive to the needs of the constituency. Frustration with “the government” is as common as complaining about the weather in Texas; but we can alleviate much of the frustration by being informative and helpful to constituents. Cass County has a rich heritage and a bright future.
New Constable Sworn in for Precinct Four
Kevin McCasland was elected to the Precinct Four Constable position in the Republican Primary Election earlier this year. This position had been covered by Chief Deputy Rex Bloodworth since the prior Constable Don Rich retired last year. Constable McCasland brings over two decades of law enforcement experience as a former Texas State Trooper. We look forward to his continued service in Cass County as our newest Constable!
Cass County Drug Court Graduates Five
On July 3rd Cass County Drug Court conducted a graduation ceremony in the Historic Courthouse in downtown Linden, Texas. The drug court is a collaborative effort led by Cass County Court at Law Judge Gary Albertson and includes representatives from the District Attorney’s office, Adult Probation Office, as well as volunteers. The grant funded program is a rigorous curriculum that requires attending both individual and group counseling as well as regular and frequent attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics anonymous (NA). Frequent random drug testing is also required. The Cass County Drug Court represents both opportunity and a challenge to those participating. The opportunity to get clean, become a productive member of society, and restore ones self and relationships which are frequently broken by addiction. It is also a challenge to live better for the future and stay clean for your loved ones. This program reduces recidivism greatly and ultimately saves taxpayers money through its rehabilitation of non-violent drug offenders. Since the drug court program began in Cass County, 131 people have graduated the program.
