THE CARNIVAL IS COMING!
The wildflower trails are set to kick off again this year with exciting news. After a year off for COVID, they brought the event back in 2021. Every year residents, local officials, and businesses celebrate the beautiful wildflowers that pop up around the area.
Their website wildflowertrailsoftexas. org describes it this way. “The Wildflower Trails of Texas Festival is a celebration at the start of the wildflower blooming season. The Wildflower Trail consists of Highways 49, 155, and 11 between Avinger, Hughes Springs, and Linden. There are thousands of different varieties of wildflowers naturally occurring in the area. Although the blooming of wildflowers is unpredictable, the last full weekend in April has proven to be one of the most beautiful.”
This year in Linden they have released the schedule of events and have added a few more special things this year. The Cass County Extension Agent Jessica Rymel is looking forward to this year’s lineup. We are very excited to bring the carnival to Linden for the first time in a long time. One of our priorities this year is to engage the crowds as much as possible. To help bring in more participation we are hosting an ugly pet contest, which will have a $250 cash prize and a Battle of the Bands event. The Battle of the Bands event is a great way for smaller or newer acts to have an opportunity to perform and possibly win cash prizes and the opportunity to headline Friday Night next year.”
For those who are new to the event, Rymel says that the “Wildflower Trails of Texas Linden takes place to celebrate the gorgeous spring landscape of East Texas, but we also utilize this even to bring the community together and raise money for scholarships.
“Last year the Linden event gave $2000 in scholarships and the board hopes to build on that number substantially as the event gains traction. In addition to scholarships, the Wildflower Trails Folk Art, Food, and Craft show also give youth the opportunity to enter projects and sell them to the community via premium sale.”
Rymel wanted to take the time to express gratitude to the community and the Linden Officials, “The growth of this event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the City of Linden’s elected officials and administrators, Cass County businesses and the board of directors that works very hard to make this a great time for our community.”
The Journal-Sun and the Daingerfield Bee will have a shared special section Mid-April that will have more information.
