Burn ban is lifted
Cass County has received some much-needed rain over the last few days effectively taking the need away for a burn ban in our area. On September 22, the burn ban was rescinded. According to the last drought map on September 19, 2023, at 8 a.m. EDT, Cass County was still listed as a D2 (Severe Drought). That, however, was before rainfall began to impact our climate. It’s worthwhile to note Texarkana’s ban was also lifted. Additionally, it was noted in the press release that it is up to individual cities to determine their own measures.
The press from Cass County Judge Travis Ransom’s office said: “Based on the collaborative decision of the Weather Assessment Committee comprised of the County Judge, the Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator, and the Texas A & M Forest Service, and due to the recent rain in all or part of Cass County, the BURN BAN HAS BEEN LIFTED for all unincorporated areas of Cass County, Texas effective immediately.
“Residents inside city limits within the county must contact their City Hall to determine if a burn ban is in effect for those areas. 22nd DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2023, TO BE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2023.”
