To Bless You

In Acts chapter three we read about the incredible miracle of healing for the lame man that had sat at the gate Beautiful. People have come from the temple to see this incredible sight. They knew who it was that had been healed.

Peter does not miss this opportunity to minister the gospel through preaching. As he is led by the Holy Spirit he begins to preach Christ and him crucified, and Jesus is the Christ.

We get to the last verse of this chapter and it says, unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. Not only is Peter speaking to sinners that have never accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but many in this crowd were there when Jesus was being crucified. They were the ones yelling “crucify him”! They were responsible for him going to the cross; they were responsible for him being crucified. And Peter is telling them, not only did God raise Jesus back from the dead, but he raised him up to bless you!

Some might think, if anybody did not deserve a blessing; it was the ones that help put him on that cruel cross. But the truth is, not one individual deserves a blessing from God. But God is gracious and loving and he really does desire to bless even the “worst” of sinners.

What is this blessing God wants to give? Again in verse 26 he says, turning away every one of you from his iniquities. To put simply he wants to forgive you of all your sins and give you a brand new life.

In the next chapter we find about five thousand people give their hearts to Jesus. again this is of the crowd that was responsible for his crucifixion. This is a beautiful picture of the greatness of God’s grace. That he would desire to bless even those that had done the worst.
