Auction brings in money for Cass County school’s ag departments

Local Cass County schools ag departments enjoyed another successful auction this year when area schools received several thousands of dollars from Bronco Pawn’s annual gun auction.

Gina Runnals started the auction because she felt like it was important to make sure our county school’s ag departments had the funding they needed to successfully run their programs, have money for field trips, etc.

This year area business came together to make sure the event was even more of a success by offering door prizes, with Dairy Queen, Newkirk Feed, Bronco Pawn, and the local schools all participating.

Those who went to the event enjoyed hot chili, with McLeod Pentecostal Church donating the food, Dairy Queen providing the cups, utensils, Fritos and crackers and McLeod Boom Club doing the cooking.

On December 12, Bronco Pawn will be celebrating its fourth year of having the event.

Every year they have been able to increase the number of guns given away.

The first year they gave away 50, the next year, 60, last year 75 and this year 100 gun prizes were given.

Those prizes helped stir raffle participants to donate over $42,000.

Each school is given a set amount of tickets, so they have an equal chance to bring maximum money into their ag departments.

Any tickets that a particular school can’t sell they are put back into a pot for the other schools to try to sell.

This year McLeod schools sold the most, earning the school $8,000, with the least sum giving to an area school was $4.000.

Each ticket could be purchased for $50.

Of that ticket price, half goes to the cost of the prizes and event, while the other half goes to the school that sold the ticket.

Cass County Equipment donated the tickets for the event.
