Atlanta students prepare to DANCE in Macy’s parade
Deemed as the “official kickoff to the holiday season”, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is turning 93. With 8.5 million viewers, in New York and at home, this Emmy Award winning production has people of all ages tuning in to see the iconic giant balloons, unique floats, performances and so much more.
The “more” includes dancers under the production of Spirit of America.
The DANCE performance consists of dancers from high schools and studios from across the country. These performers must be between 13-18 years of age.
Dancers at Tammie Duncan’s School of Dance have a special invitation to perform each year.
This year you will see Maggie Johnson, Sydney Lightfoot, Madison Tomlin, Cassie Caver, Cami Fincher, Sarah Whatley and Abigail Milam alongside Emmy and Grammy Award winners, former NASA astronauts and Miss America 2019.
The students will begin rehearsals, on arrival day, in New York City. They will have three long days of practice to perfect the performance routine. The dancers will have a busy schedule.
On Monday, the dancers rehearse in preparation for the Macy’s executives’ performance and to set television lighting and angles for the parade.
While there will be plenty of work to keep the dancers busy, there is also time set aside for them to “take it all in”.
From a Broadway show and sightseeing New York City to seeing the iconic Radio City Rockettes.
The special will air on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 9 a.m. EST on NBC’s TODAY SHOW with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker.
Be sure to tune in and watch for these amazing performers in the OPENING production of the 93rd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
