Atlanta resident graduates from UAMS

Degrees and certificates were conferred to 936 graduates of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) five colleges and graduate school on May 15. Among the graduates was Atlanta’s own, Zoe Allen.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences came from humble beginnings. In October of 1879, just weeks before Thomas Edison invented the first light bulb, eight physicians pooled their money together and invested $5,000 to start the first medical school in Arkansas. Since then, the university has grown and expanded exponentially and now includes five colleges and a graduate school.

Today UAMS is the state’s only academic health center, part of a statewide network of postsecondary education institutions of the University of Arkansas System governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees

Allen was among many who graduated with either a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Master of Science in Nursing (MNSc.) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the College of Nursing.
