Atlanta to repair streets, approves loan for gym
The Atlanta City Council convened Monday evening, Dec. 21, to discuss and approve agenda items including repairs to the downtown area nearing $30,000 and granting a $20,000 revolving business enterprise grant loan to Cass County Fitness which will operate in the old CHRISTUS Health Fitness Center on N. Williams St.
Tri State Mobile, a Shreveport-based company, submitted a bid for street, alley and public parking lot improvements and repairs in downtown Atlanta for $28,955 which includes point repairs for asphalt, compacting the subgrade, sealing and patching.
Atlanta City Manager David Cockrell asked the company for a proposal to demonstrate their capabilities. Tri State Mobile was asked to submit a few asphalt-point repairs, parking lot crack sealing and coat, alley milling and overlay and striping.
“It’s a positive step,” Councilman Chad Clements said.
The agenda item was approved by Councilmen Arlie Kyzer, Dean McDuff and Chad Clements.
The council also approved a $20,000 revolving business enterprise grant loan with a 3% fixed APR for a term of five years to Cass County Fitness. The company recently leased the building, owned by Christus Health, and purchased the equipment.
The Revolving Loan Committee convened Dec. 8 to discuss an application by Eric Lummus to assist in opening the gym once operated by Christus Health.
Miranda Johnson, Corey Graf, Kevin Sherman, Dean McDuff and Dan Simmons comprise the Revolving Loan committee.
The loan is in addition to a 50k loan that the company had received previously. Additional funds, according to Cockrell, will support a 24/7/365 business model and “boost the operating capital necessary to reach profitability in the first two years.”
The Atlanta City Council meets the first and third Mondays of each month. Go to www.atlantatexas.org/government/public-meeting-agendas.aspx for upcoming meetings and agenda items.
“It’s a positive step.”
