Atlanta-Miller Grade School busy with the basics

Atlanta Grade School Friends Valentine’s Day newsletter announced their continued work with Architexas for restoration, starting with key infrastructure.

“First things first,” the newsletter said. “Key infrastructure items like installing a fire safety sprinkler system, basic security, restoring the auditorium and restrooms as visitors will be inside the building occasionally as we restore it, as well as setting up a warming kitchen area ll part of the first phase.

Though it may seem quiet, AGSF say there is actually a lot of planning going on and ask that those interested in updates shoot them an email at atlantagradeschoolfriends@ gmail.com.

Atlanta Grade School Friends newsletter not only keeps the community abreast of the feat undertaken for the community’s labor of love project, but provides interesting historical facts for the year Atlanta Grade School opened–1936. Did you know Horace Leon Chapplear, one of the pioneers of Western Swing, was born in Gilmer, Texas in 1909? Chappelear founded the Lone Star Cowboys in 1929 with Joe and Bob Shelton, before releasing the 1936 gem “Prairie Rose.”

So much talent seems to come out of east Texas.

“Our volunteers continue to give generously of their time and talents. The restoration of Atlanta-Miller Grade School would not be as successful as it is today without you! We hope you will continue to be our ‘Valentines,’” they said.
