Atlanta ISD receives highest Texas accountability rating

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently released its 2019 state accountability ratings for approximately 1,200 school districts and charter schools. Atlanta ISD received an overall “A” rating, putting the district in the top 25% of school rankings in Texas.

The 85th Texas Legislature, in HB 22, established three domains for measuring the academic performance of districts and campuses: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. Districts and campuses received a rating of A, B, C, D, or F for overall performance, as well as for performance in each domain.

“Thanks to the hard work and efforts of all AISD staff, we are humbled to receive this great rating,” said Superintendent Sidney Harrist.

“We know that we still have areas of improvement to work on, and we are analyzing this report to target the areas where our students can grow and achieve even higher. We are providing opportunities such as STEM and Blended Learning to help each child reach their maximum potential.”

“Our teachers, principals, and staff deserve much of the credit for this, but without support from our community, parents, and school board, we could not reach our goals. We BELIEVE in our students, teachers, and staff.”

A-F accountability uses a variety of indicators such as graduation rates, college, career and military readiness, SAT/ACT scores, and college prep course completion.

TEA also awards Distinctions in areas where schools perform exceptionally well. Atlanta schools received the following Distinctions:

Education Commissioner Mike Morath said, “With resources on TXschools.gov , educators and parents and empowered as they never have been before to support even greater improvements in the future.” For a closer look at the new ratings, TEA encourages parents, educators and community members to visit TXschools.gov to view district and school report cards.
