Atlanta ISD embraces technology

Atlanta ISD has long been known to have outstanding technology. This is just one of the many things that makes it a great school district. AISD is currently a 1:1 school district, meaning that each student has access to the internet, class resources, textbooks, or any other educational resource the district utilizes at any given time.

The primary school currently has enough iPads in each classroom to make this possible, while the other campuses utilize Chromebooks. Grades 7-12 are allowed to take their devices home to be able to have full time access to all the online resources the district has to offer.

The 1:1 program also helps programs like BEST (Believing in Every Student’s Talents) and our new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs flourish. The district has also recently began an initiative to replace projectors with new 4K interactive displays in the classrooms.

Currently, about half the districts classrooms have been outfitted with these new displays, and they are planning to upgrade the other classrooms in the near future.

AISD also recently received the Math Innovation Zone (MIZ) grant, which introduces blended learning in the math classrooms from grades K-6. The Texas Education Agency has begun making blended learning grants available as they believe that it will play a very important part in education in the years to come.

Blended learning is a style of education in which students learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching. The district also plans to incorporate blended learning into other subject areas in the future.

Having up-to-date, well supported technology is a vital part of the blended learning initiatives.

So what makes AISD technology great? It begins with the AISD faculty. The faculty at all campuses embrace technology and are ready to learn and utilize the various forms of new technologies that they receive. The administration and school board also recognize the importance of utilizing technology to assist in the education of all students.

Director of Technology, Brandon Prince and his team are also dedicated to supporting all technology in a timely manner, boasting some of the fastest trouble resolution times in the state.

Not only is the technology department committed to providing support for the many computers that staff and students utilize, they also support many of the instructional technology programs the district uses as well as service the large infrastructure that it takes to keep everything up and running.

AISD also employs two instructional technologists that assist the teachers in effectively implementing all forms of technology into their curriculum. The AISD technology department was even recently included in the Winter 2019 Edition II of Toggle magazine.

AISD is committed to providing a well-rounded education utilizing all resources that are available and to providing the highest quality education possible to its students.
