Atlanta Athletics Hall of Fame Announcement

The Atlanta Athletics Hall of Fame will welcome three new members for induction into the Class of 2023 this fall. Two long-time Rabbit coaches and an outstanding fullback from the mid-1940s will be honored. Long-serving Girls Coach Donna Walker, Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Ben Scharnberg and Coulter “Mule” Kennamer will be inducted at a pre-game ceremony at the Atlanta-White Oak game on Friday, October 20.

That night the HOF hopes to honor all Rabbits who played for the two coaches. In addition, it is hoped that members of the 2003 State Football Championship team can be on hand.

Three black granite plaques etched with the accomplishments of each inductee will be placed on the left stadium wall as you enter Rabbit Stadium under the press box. They will join 17 other HOF members selected from 2018 through 2022.

The HOF was formed to carry on the outstanding sports traditions of Atlanta’s athletes. Athletes covering a span from as far back as 1912 are enshrined. Several great athletes who played for the Booker T. Washington High School Wolverines are among the 17 already in the HOF.

In order to continue the tradition each year, the HOF requires donations from the public. Help is tax-free and can be mailed to P.O. Box 637 in Atlanta, TX 75551. You can also donate online by going to the Atlanta Athletics Hall of Fame site.
