Armed robbery at Maud Family Dollar leaves clerk dead

A store clerk in Maud was shot and killed Saturday night March 9, during an armed robbery at a Family Dollar in Maud, leading to the swift arrest of a suspect, according to the Bowie County Sheriff ’s Office.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:52 p.m. reporting a robbery and shooting at the store. When they arrived, they found the victim, identified as Denyle K. Pierce, 47, of Maud, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Store surveillance footage captured the incident, providing deputies with a clear description of the suspect’s distinctive clothing and the firearm used in the crime. Investigators also obtained information on the suspect’s vehicle, which was later found at a residence in Maud.

The homeowner allowed deputies to search the property, where they recovered clothing and a firearm matching those seen in the surveillance footage.

Deputies arrested Keyshawn Deiron Wickware, 27, of Maud, on a charge of capital murder. He was booked into the Bowie County Jail, where his bond was initially not set.

UPDATE: Authorities have since set Wickware’s bond at $1.5 million.

The case remains under investigation by the Bowie County Sheriff ’s Office. Investigators handling the case include Patrol Investigator Michelle Carrier, Investigator Brent Caudle, Investigator Kyle Holcomb, and Investigator Ed Rawls.
