Arkansas man arrested for car theft in Atlanta

An Arkansas man was arrested early Sunday, Dec. 11, in Fouke when he was allegedly caught in possession of a family vehicle stolen from a residential area near downtown Atlanta, according to police.

Shannon Collins, 20, was taken to Miller County jail, where he sits on hold for both Atlanta Police Department and Caddo Parish, in Louisiana.

“During the course of the investigation, the vehicle was located in the state of Arkansas,” Captain Greg Restelle, with APD said. “With the assistance of Miller County Sheriff ’s Office, the vehicle was located and the suspect was arrested. Atlanta Police Department went to the scene of the arrest and recovered the vehicle.”

Restelle said APD returned the vehicle back to the registered owner. “The suspect remains in Miller County Jail facing charges out of Arkansas,” Restelle said. “Atlanta Police Department has filed for warrants for his arrest and a hold has been placed on the suspect. When Arkansas is finished with him he will be extradited back to Texas to answer for his charges.”

Miller County Sheriff ’s Office contend that Collins’ charges include two counts of theft by receiving, criminal trespass, and theft of property.

According to Miller County reports, Collins was apprehended with the vehicle near the old Rowton’s Auto Salvage in Fouke at 6:35 a.m., Sunday Dec. 11, where Collins allegedly told police he was hoping to get the vehicle detailed.

The owner of the vehicle declined to comment on the situation.
