Appraisal district seeks new board member
The Cass County Appraisal Board of Directors met last Tuesday at the historic Cass County Court House in Linden to implement social-distancing measures. It was the board’s first in-person meeting since March 18.
The board gave its approval for several law firms to give proposals for services, a new Appraisal Review Board member, and it announced the resignation of member Bryan Baggett due to health reasons.
When a board member steps down during their tenure, letters are sent out to the taxing entities, excepting emergency entities, asking for a nominee from each. Each entity has 45 days to send in the name of their nominee. Once all entities have sent in their nominees, the board has five days to meet and vote on a new board member. Notice was sent Monday, May 18, to all entities.
A new appraiser has been hired by the district, valuations are complete, and notices have been mailed to property owners.
The board will reconvene on Tuesday, June 9, at 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the historic Cass County Court House in downtown Linden.
