Amity Study Club October Meeting

The Amity Study Club held its October meeting at the home of Michelle Warren. Co-hostesses Rebecca Hamilton, Marcie Whatley, Janet Patillo, and Judith Lynch welcomed members with autumnal fare and festive décor celebrating the season.

Guest speaker Karen Rayfield of Grace House shared about the organization’s mission to provide a refuge for women and children in crisis, “equipping them with the skills and support” to regain control of their lives. With an atmosphere of hope and love, Rayfield and her team of workers and volunteers strive to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of young mothers. Club members were deeply moved by the work of this worthwhile organization and will hold a diaper drive at their November meeting to support Grace House.

President Teresa Crow then called the business meeting to order. The minutes from the September meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved. Kim Miller, Federation Counselor, gave an engaging presentation highlighting programs through the years, such as driving safety. She also shared fun trivia about Amity’s history and hinted that members might be “tested” on a later date, adding a lighthearted touch to the evening.

Miller also emphasized the importance of being part of a “wisdom circle” and the value of “filling your bucket” in order to better serve others.

Marcie Whatley, Domestic Violence Chair, provided an update on the club’s National Day of Service project. Members prepared “Respect Bags” containing journals, stress-relief items, and resource pamphlets, which were distributed to school counselors to raise awareness about teen dating violence. A total of 32 bags were given, and the club will continue partnering with counselors in ongoing support efforts.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Vice President Jan Hamilton gifted members with pink jewelry as a reminder to schedule and encourage annual checkups.

The 65th Anniversary Celebration Planning Committee presented updates and shared a slideshow of the proposed venue for the upcoming “Legacy of Service” event, to be held March 14. Members voted to accept the committee’s recommendations.

The evening concluded on a joyful note with a singalong of “All of Us”—this year’s selection for World Singing Day.

A video of the performance was recorded and was released on social media October 18, as Amity joined people around the globe in song to celebrate unity and human connection.
