Amity Club Garage Sale this Weekend
If you have a closet full of clothes that you’ve been meaning to get rid of for the past year or more, or are trying to do some downsizing, or spring cleaning but are wondering just what to do with all that stuff, Amity Study Club has a solution for you.
Amity’s annual garage two-day garage sale will begin at 8:00 a.m on both Friday and Saturday at the building next to Atlanta McDonald’s, 200 N Loop 59.
This fundraiser helps the women’s club pool together money to help fund different projects to benefit our community. Funds are commonly used for various betterment projects. For example, non-profit organization CASA, was given $1,000 last month.
Judy Cook, Amity Club president said Thursday will be the drop off day for both club members and anyone else who would like to donate items for the club to sell to earn charitable funds.
“We welcome and encourage folks to donate during our Thursday Drop-off,” Cook said. “Anything that we don’t sell Friday and Saturday will go to benefit the Domestic Violence Prevention store on Hiram Street.”
Cook said they expect the sale on Friday to last from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the club will reconvene the sale from 8:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m. (or when things sell out or the event begins to die down.
Club member Julia Braun said the annual garage sale helps a great deal in giving the club general funding for projects close to members’ hearts, such as the donation to child advocate organization CASA— court appointed special advocates— the support for Domestic Violence Prevention, senior scholarships, and Friends of the Library.
“Just to name a few,” Braun said. September, which starts the new club year, will most likely bring new projects.
Cook said the club would like to find a way to participate in the upcoming Rise Against Hunger for children, which she is currently researching, along with other community betterment projects that will be discussed in future meetings.
