AISD trains staff in life-saving skills

Atlanta Independent School District conducted a CPR and first-aid training class for staff members Friday in the library of Atlanta High School.

AISD Health Services Coordinator Jennifer Christian and Atlanta Primary School nurse Crimson Tyson led the training of several staff members, which included coaches, teachers and paraprofessionals.

“You never know what can happen, and we want to be ready,” Christian said. “As nurses, we do our very best to be available for any emergency, but sometimes we’re handling one situation and we’re not in an office when someone comes looking for us.”

The training is conducted several times a year to ensure that someone is always available to respond in case of an emergency.

“Out on a football field or out on a track field, the coaches need to be able to respond immediately because the nurse would more likely be in her office,” Christian said.

All coaches, bus drivers, band directors, nurses and any other staff member identified by the principals are certified. The next training will be Aug. 4 for bus drivers and cafeteria workers.
