4-H upcoming events; open enrollment

The start of September means that 4-H enrollment is now open for the 2019-2020 4-H year. We have many active clubs that are busy getting their projects started, so don’t hesitate to reach out to our office and get plugged in.

Oct. 5 we are hosting our 2nd annual One Day 4-H Event in Linden. This event will have booths set up with hands-on activities in each project area. We will have fun activities for the whole family and free 4-H enrollment to Cass County residents on this day.

The Cass 4-H Program is hosting a “Rummage Sale” on Oct. 11-12 in conjunction with Linden’s Treasure Trails. If you have items that you would like to donate to get moved out of your garage or storage unit, we will be accepting tax-deductible donations until Oct. 1.

Cass County is part of the 1st Annual “Tri-County Hay Show.” We will be taking hay samples until Sept. 19. These samples will be sent off to the Texas A&M Forage testing lab. Samples will then be judged based on their quality.

The awards will be announced on Oct. 10 at the Marion County Extension Office. This data will give livestock owners invaluable information for adjusting their rations throughout the winter feeding season.

Sept. 27 is our “Land Owner Resource Workshop.” Texas A&M AgriLife Extension will be hosting all of the organizations that offer services to the landowners of Cass County. This program is free and lunch will be catered by Riverport BBQ. If you plan on attending, please make sure to call the office to RSVP.

The Cass County Extension office is offering a limited number of free soil samples tests. To take advantage of this opportunity, you need to submit your soil sample to the extension office prior to Oct. 10. We have soil sample bags available in the office or they can be mailed to you.

For information on these programs and others, please call the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Cass County at 903-756-5391.
