‘21 L-K majorettes named
The cafeteria of Mae Luster Stephens Junior High was filled with balloons, candy, excitement and batons on March 11 as the Linden Kildare Band program held auditions for both the high school and junior high majorette lines. Four girls auditioned for the high school line and ten auditioned for the junior high line.
Experienced judges came from three different cities to evaluate the twirling ability of the auditionees. The high school girls were also interviewed individually about leadership to determine a head majorette. This year the auditions ended with an unusual but happy result. All fourteen girls who auditioned qualified to be an LK majorette next year. Mr. Williams explained the situation. “If you lock yourself into a specific number and say ‘we’re going to have X number of majorettes’ you almost always force yourself into leaving out kids who could do the job or set up a kid for frustration and embarrassment. So we look for a clean break in the scores, like a jump of 20 points or so. Then you get a group of kids you know will look good together. We didn’t see that kind of break so I spoke with the judges to verify that all the girls could keep up with each other and they said yes. So BAM! We got TEN junior high majorettes! That’s a big line! We’re pretty excited!”
Those ten junior high majorettes for 2021 are (in no particular order): Ada Whatley, Mackenzie Richardson, Kendall Baker, Olivia King, Mia Zarate, Johanna Ward, Maggee Winters, Cadi Belford, Hannah Snow and Britlee Price.
The high school majorettes for 2021 will be Katie Sellers, Katelyn Duncan, Emerson Delese and Head Majorette Camdyn McNutt.
