Wilbanks officially announces retirement
On September 1, 2021, Becky Wilbanks officially announced her intention not to seek a third term as the Cass County Judge. According to an interview with the Journal-Sun this year she will be seeking entrepreneur ventures in the future. Wilbanks currently owns Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Atlanta which she purchased in 2016. Her current term expires on December 31, 2022.
Below is Wilbanks official release:
“Today, I am officially announcing that I will not be seeking a third term as County Judge for Cass County. The honor to serve as your County Judge has been the pinnacle of my career in county government. You have allowed me to serve you for 36 years in elected office and I will forever be grateful for your trust and support.
“I have been blessed to work alongside some of the most outstanding people in Cass County. One such person was Hazelle Carson, the former Cass County Auditor. Hazelle gave me my start in county government when I was 21 years old and, the rest is history.
“During my career, I have had the honor to represent Cass County on the state level serving as President of the County and District Clerk’s Association of Texas, member of the Texas Association of Counties Executive Board and as Chair of the County Judges Education Advisory Committee. Throughout my tenure with Cass County, I have had the pleasure of working with many great leaders across our state.
“This has been a difficult decision to make because my heart is, and will always be, tied to Cass County and to all of you. I have been blessed to have a career that I love and will be sad to leave at the end of my term. As Winnie the Pooh said, ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.’ That my friends is exactly how I feel.”
According to the same interview earlier this year in her role as County Judge she presided over probate, guardianships and mental cases and also hear misdemeanor pleas. She also presided over Commissioners Court. “My entire career has been spent in public service to Cass County, as both an employee and as an elected official. I feel that my working knowledge and experience prepared me for the leadership role as County Judge,” said Wilbanks earlier this year.
