Linden meets for big changes
The Linden City council and the economic development board met Friday, May 7, at the County Seat Café, where they discussed a number of items that included ratifying the vote for the Mayor and Aldermen. For the mayor’s race, Lynn Reynolds defeated Robert Swisher 119 to 64. Michael Berry, 126 and Frank Lanier, 112, won their races for Aldermen against Robert Kenward, 53 and Whitney Goebel, 50 respectively.
Much of the meeting was held in executive session. When it was returned to the normal minutes they voted on hiring the new city commissioner/economic developer.
Lee Elliott, who attended the meeting, was voted in to become the new Linden City Manager/Economic Developer. The Journal-Sun hopes to do a follow-up article with Elliot in the coming weeks. The paper was not given a timeline on when Elliot will begin his duties.
Lynn Reynolds also attended the meeting where she was sworn in to become the first woman Linden Mayor. Lynn is the wife of Charles Reynolds, whose great grandfather started Shiloh United Methodist Church. Lynn has been proud to call Linden home since she was in second grade. In March of 1956, Reynold’s father started the Ford dealership in town.
Lynn understands that in our current age small towns struggle, but she would like to see Linden become the best it can be. She hopes to help bring in new business, and residents back to the city limits, noting the need for new housing options. She views the roads as the top priority, also making sure the water and sewer are working properly.
Lynn says that they own land and have lived in Linden most of her life, making Linden a proud place she can call home. The Journal-Sun will also be featuring a more indepth article in the coming weeks on her.
