Highways to receive safety improvements

According to plans approved in April by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), safety features will be added or enhanced along 11 Northeast Texas highway sections in Cass and Marion counties this coming year.

Area Engineer for TxDOT in Texarkana, Paul Wong, said, “The project is designed to reduce the severity of traffic incidents where vehicles leave the roadway. We are looking at installing additional safety features on driveway culverts and drainage structures.”

The contract for the construction of these projects was awarded to H.V. Caver, Inc. of Atlanta with a bid of $2.7 million.

Highways scheduled to receive the drainage safety improvements are Cass County sections including FM 288, FM 250, FM 2888, FM 125, FM 251, FM 9940, FM 130, FM 1766, FM 1841, and FM 248 in Marion County.

Work on the projects should take about 16 months and will begin in July of this year, Wong said.
