Giesler Dentistry makes history

A new dentist is joining the Giesler Family Dentistry team. She is Dr. Katy Allday.

Katy will be the first female dentist in Atlanta history.

“I grew up in Houston and went to school at Texas A&M University,” Dr. Allday begins. “I got my degree in nutrition and then went on to dental school at Texas A&M School of Dentistry in Dallas. There I earned my dental degree and started as a general dentist. Since then, I have been working in Frisco and then Keller, TX.”

“I met Andrew Allday when he was living in Ft. Worth, and I was in Dallas. We like to say we had a medium distance relationship. It was an hour’s drive between us.”

The two married Nov. 15 in Quinlan, TX, and have since been living in Keller, TX.

“Andrew had always wanted to move to East Texas. It’s been a dream of mine to have more space to have a big garden to grow vegetables and flowers. We both like being outside and being close to family. We’re excited and planning to move there in February.”

The couple will feel at home. Dr. Katy is joining an Atlanta family dental practice in that of Mike and Diane Geisler and sons. Then, by marrying into the local Allday family, she will also be joining an Atlanta family with a five-generation business and family heritage.

The way in which the Giesler’s met Katy is also something of a local story. While in town for the weekend, Katy and Andrew ran into one of the Giesler’s employees and was invited to join them on their mission trip to Belize.

“We were with Tejas Missions and during the week we were there I got to know the Geisler’s who later asked if I might want to consider joining their practice.

“It was a great week filled with lots of dentistry and serving the local community. We even got to go to the local church on Sunday.”

Tejas Missions is a Christ-centered volunteer organization that provides medical and dental care and educational assistance to financially disadvantaged people.

Andrew is the son of Frank Allday IV and Teresa Allday and is a graduate of Atlanta High and also of Texas A&M University. He taught algebra at Atlanta High School for four years and is now a project estimator for Austin Bridge and Road.

On the move to Atlanta, he responded, “Katy and I are grateful for this opportunity to come back to my hometown. I’ve seen the amount of attention and care she devotes to every patient and I’m excited to see her continue that in Atlanta.”

Andrew and Katy bring with them an orange cat named Chuck and a dog named Sadie Jo. They love to go on walks with Sadie Jo and take her to the dog park. Chuck enjoys his naps indoors.

Dr. Allday says she has always been person who likes to work with her hands. She is something of an artist and crafts person and loves to paint.

“That’s why I chose dentistry,” she said.

“I like to work with my hands and take care of people. I really enjoy building relationships with my patients and helping them feel as comfortable as possible when taking care of their teeth. ” “I’m also very passionate about health and nutrition and enjoy educating patients on how this fits into quality of life and preventative dentistry.”

As she comes to the Giesler Family Dentistry practice, she is excited to bring her experience from working in Frisco and Keller and getting to know the people of Atlanta.
