Dowd resigns from council seat
The Linden City Council will meet in a special session at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, to look at candidates to fill a vacant seat.
During the Monday, Feb. 9, meeting, Councilman Bill Thomas made the motion to accept the resignation of Councilwoman Mary Dowd.
“I want to give her the respect that is due,” Thomas said. “I regretfully accept her resignation.”
The chosen candidate for the place on the council will fill the position until November, when the position comes up for election.
If the chosen party wishes to continue in the council placement, they will have to file and run in the election.
Eligible candidates must be residents of the state for one year, a resident of the city for six months, at least 18 years of age, and a registered voter.
Thomas said he would like candidates to prepare a short bio about themselves, what they would like to see and how they feel about the city.
The meeting will be held at the Mary Daughety Senior Citizens Center at 507 South Kaufman St. in Linden.
