On Saturday

On Saturday, December 19 Santa will be back at Potato Patch from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.! People from the community are invited to bring their children and take photos with the man himself! They will have refreshments and hot cocoa! According to Kayla Hill the Manager, “This is our 3rd year to host Santa. Not only do kids enjoy it, but also the adults join in with taking photos with Santa. It’s just an overall fun-filled day with the people in our community. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, and on behalf of all of us at Potato Patch, Merry Christmas!” Courtesy photos

Atlanta State Park will be celebrating their 11 Annual Christmas in the Park. They do not have any spots left to camp but they invite visitors to join them for a drive-thru to look at all the beautiful Christmas decorations with the participation of the park guests. Santa, Mrs. Claus, The Grinch and Smokey Bear will be here to welcome people to the park for free. This year the event will be on December 18 and 19 from dark to 9:00 p.m.Journal-Sun Photo

It takes a village, or in this case, a community, to reach out to the homeless in these cold and Covid times. Thanks to the generosity of the Amity Study Club members and the residents of the Atlanta community, Cody Howard will be able to provide warmth to homeless individuals who are in need this winter. This is a real reason for the season. Merry Christmas. Pictured are left to right: Howard, Director of Mission Texarkana and Teri Lovely, President of Amity Study Club of Atlanta. Courtesy photo

Celebrate a Pineywoods Christmas at State Park

Enjoy an evening of cheer to remember throughout the year at our 8th annual Christmas in the Park! Come on out to see the park dressed in its holiday best! This year, in order to protect Santa and his elves, the event will be drivethrough only. Please stay warm and snuggly in your vehicle as you make your way through the twinkling lights and towering pines. Keep those letters to Santa handy and be sure to drop them in the North Pole mailbox.

Santa Slam

Santa Slam

The Queen City High School boys’ basketball program along with the varsity cheerleaders hosted the Second Annual Santa Slam on Dec. 8, at Eugene Sloan Memorial Gymnasium. Spectators were encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game in lieu of paying a fee for admission. When the Bulldogs scored their first points of the game, fans threw their stuffed animals onto the gym floor. All the toys collected will be used to help provide Christmas gifts for needy families in Cass County. Photo by PHYLLIS WARREN
