Linden Parade

When Jennifer Bailey paused her mule in Linden’s parade Saturday, it was not to give out candy. She leaned over the saddle and spoke to the little children who were looking up eagerly from below.

“You want to pet the animal? It’s OK. He doesn’t mind. Go ahead.”

And several did, including some adults who walked up, too. Linden’s parades are usually like this. The crowd gets to participate, and everyone is having a relaxed good time.

Bailey’s mule might have stayed longer to be admired, but the parade continued to go by.

This year, Linden combined the Christmas parade with a Linden Main Street Market event on this Dec. 7 day. Some 50 vendors were present around the courthouse square. The crafters and resellers were eager to talk, too. It only takes a small effort to make conversation, and citizens of Linden enjoy talking. That’s part of being the county’s center. Part of the town’s courthouse fame.

Linden has an exceptional setting for a Christmas parade and celebration. The courthouse lawn is decorated with more than 50 green Christmas trees, each dedicated for a purpose or remembrance. Youngsters play on the grass or sit on convenient stone dividers.

The spirit of celebration is easy to find and enjoy here. Even the parade will slow down and pause for you if you want to pet an animal for a moment.
