L-K band competes at UIL contest
On February 4th UIL held it’s annual solo and ensemble contest for high school bands in region 4. The contest was held over two days at two different locations.
This year schools also had the option to perform virtually. Eleven students represented Linden Kildare High School at the Sulphur Springs site.
Participation for LK was down a bit this year, but not because of covid. Students explained they were so busy with state marching contest last semester, they got started on solo and ensemble late. Usually they start practicing solos and ensembles in December. But since they came back from San Antonio just two days before Christmas break, they didn’t have a chance to select music until after the break.
Regardless, it was a successful day for that roarin’ band from Tigerland. The eleven LK band members performed in five different events and of the five ratings possible (one being best) one earned First Division and the others all earned Second Division.
Elizabeth Klaver earned a First Division medal with her flute solo. The other students were Ethan Lansdale who played a snare drum solo, Najeli Fuentes, Camdyn McNutt and Josie Turner in a flute trio, Macy Fairless, Katelyn Duncan, and Katie Sellers in a clarinet trio and Rayna Bradshaw, Michael Lane and Hugh Tyson in a trumpet trio.
Next up for the LKHS band is a pre-UIL contest at Pleasant Grove High School on February 26 then UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contest at the same location on March 4.
