Food drive a big success

The food was fresh and ready to be handed out to those in need on Saturday, July 11 in the parking lot of the old Milstep building located at 300 S. Main St. The USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program provided a truckload full of fresh produce and dry goods, boxed and ready to be handed out. Flo Stevenson, President of the Fairview Reunion Corporation and primary event organizer said, “This event would not have been possible without the support of volunteers from CSNT, Fairview, Linden Together, City of Linden, Linden United, LEDC, USDA, and others. Recipients were from all over the county.”

Turnout for the event was phenomenal, with residents from all across Cass County coming out. The event was able to distribute fresh produce boxes to 253 households, all in just under three hours. There will be a second Food Box program on Aug. 8 at the same location. The food is free for anyone, there are no restrictions on income, considerations should be to those who have need.
