Echols gives presentation at May CCGS meeting

At the May meeting of Cass County Genealogical Society, Mary Echols gave a program on her Isenhower family.

The family migrated from Germany to the Netherlands, to the Isle of Wight off England’s south coast, and finally to Cape Henlopen near Lewes, Delaware. This long, dangerous trek occurred in 1741. After reaching the Colonies, the extended family settled in Lebanon County Pennsylvania. Catawba County North Carolina was their next home, then Bollinger County Missouri, then Montgomery County Arkansas, and finally Cass County Texas. Mary explained the many variations of the surname. President Dwight Eisenhower’s heritage goes back to the same German immigrant as Mary’s.

Mary’s first cousin Jo Echols Anthony is pictured with her.

Cass County Genealogical Society meets at noon on the second Thursday of each month in the Queen City Methodist Church fellowship hall. A light meal is served, and all are welcome.
