Atlanta Public Library awarded $2,000

The Cass County Judge and Commissioners recently awarded funding to the Atlanta Public Library under its Cass County Literacy Grant program. The Atlanta Public Library was awarded $2,000 total to go toward literacy programs benefitting county residents.

These funds were formally awarded at a press conference in the Atlanta Public Library on November 10th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

The Atlanta Public Library’s proposed project is for a special nonfiction collection honoring Cass County veterans. The collection will be housed on the 2nd floor of the library in a dedicated area. Titles will cover not only historical encyclopedias about recent American conflicts, but also memoirs, books about current veteran issues, and narratives of lesser-known stories from wartime. The books will have custom bookplates dedicating them to Cass County veterans. Local veterans will also be invited to donate stories and memoirs to the collection.

According to Library Director Kendra Harrell, “Judge Ransom’s support means so much to the Atlanta Public Library. The Atlanta community benefits from the services the public library provides, and support from local government shows that our services are valued not just by the people that use them every day, but also by the people we trust to represent us. The Atlanta Public Library is grateful for the opportunity to help and honor Cass County veterans.”
