Hundreds of new laws go into effect
A total of 774 new laws went into effect on Sept. 1, affecting Texans in many areas of their lives, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The new laws concern property taxes, registration fees and voting access, among other issues. Several have drawn court challenges from opponents.
VanDeaver urges drivers to be careful around school zones
Help keep kids safe in school zones. Now that schools are back in session, drivers and pedestrians need to be on high alert for increased traffic and the potential for accidents. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reminds us that school zones can be a chaotic place with children dashing in and out of traffic, and unfortunately, crashes can and do happen.
Texans asked to conserve energy in heat wave
The agency that operates the power grid for much of the state asked Texans to conserve energy use several times last week as the grid was beset with high demand and low wind-power generation, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
New laws affecting TDLR take effect Sept. 1
AUSTIN – New laws – including ones giving TDLR the authority to shut down massage establishments where human trafficking is suspected, redefining who is a dog or cat breeder, and attaching the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to TDLR – will go into effect on September 1.
